Horse 'whisperer' sharing her knowledge - by Matt Webster

Faith Mason has been using her knowledge and experience working with horses to help owners connect to their animals.

"Horses are the masters of body language and that's what I work a lot with" says Faith Mason of Penrice, who has built a reputation for her ability to connect with horses.

Faith's journey into horsemanship began in childhood, growing up around horses before owning her first in her 20s.

After a time away from the horse world, she returned when her children developed an interest, eventually deepening her learning through natural horsemanship training and mentorship under established Horse educators.

Her path has since evolved into more reflective, empathetic approach that lens practical training with emotional awareness resulting in her family members dubbing her a 'horse whisperer'.

"It's a different way of working with them. It's through kindness and understanding" she said.

Through 'Horse mind and heart' Faith said she works with riders of all experience levels helping owners develop confidence and calmer relationships with the animals.

Having moved to the region just over a year ago Faith says she has found strong community support in Penrice and the surrounding Barossa and she looks forward to sharing her knowledge with others in the area.

Speaking to The Leader, Faith said she uses her years of experience working with horses to teach Horse owners how to connect with the animals and really to see what they're thinking and feeling.

"Horses need to be seen not just on the surface but really seen" she said.

Faith said that went around. Horses is important to stay grounded and calm and that observation and understanding are key to connecting with them rather than force or control.

"I work with their brain so much, and I keep them calm. There's no point in upsetting them. You want to Horse to want to be with you" she said.

Faith describes her work as learning "what makes a horses tick" and her approach focuses on reading body language, managing human energy and creating a calm, safe spaces for horses to feel secure and understood.

"You always want to put your horse away in a good headspace so they go 'that was nice, I enjoyed that.'"

Faith teachers owners to look at how their own emotions, posture and behaviour influence the animal.

She said that her method is helpful for those who are struggling with behavioural issues, anxiety or connection with their animals.

Faith explained that Horses are highly sensitive to human presence and energy.

Paying attention to how a person approaches a horse where they stand, and how tense they are, can significantly affect how a horse responds.

"A lot of people don't realise the energy they're creating around their horse, and that becomes a problem for the Horse" she said.

"Just little things like where you where your belly button is facing, that's energy you're projecting without knowing it."

"If a horse is relax, their head will be lower than the weather that tells you straight away a lot straight away."

She said her work often begins with observation.

She looks at how a horse moves, hold his head, interacts with people, and responds to new environments.

She also looks closely at the human of the relationship and whether owners are nervous, controlling, or unintentionally transferring stress to the animal.

According to Faith horses quickly see these emotional states.
